Gents Vintage Longines Automatic 433cal Ultra-Chron Date Tank Watch - Working. The Longines Ultra-Chron is a slice of history: when it was released in 1967 it was the world's most accurate watch. 1967 was all about hi-beat movements, The point of going "hi-beat" was that a faster oscillating balance was believed to be less vulnerable to shock, helping it keep better time. It wasn't just a case of tweaking the gearing. Yes, the escape wheel had 21 teeth instead of 15, but at 36,000bph everything changes.

More power is needed, so the mainspring has to be stronger and the barrel has to grow to accommodate it. All the wheels are under more tension, so precision in manufacturing becomes crucial. With the balance revolving at such a rate, conventional oils could literally be thrown off the components, a problem Longines solved with a new "dry" lubricant: molybdenum bisulphide. Launched as a celebration of Longines' centenary, the Ultra-Chron was billed as "the world's most accurate watch. Guaranteed to within a minute a month".

Dial great, there are a few marks around the edges of the dial where the dial meets the case. Still has its original stamped crown great condition. Original Crystal has been professionally polished minor surface scratching may remain.

Tested and keeping great time no visible loss or gain that is noticeable over 24 hours, ran great for over 24 hours and was still running after, this was after a full manual wind didnt check any further than that 24 hour point. Case size lug-to-lug - 36.8mm. I personally change or polish crystal/Plexiglass to a high standard and straps plus test the watches for efficiency unless specified in title and description. In working/serviced condition watches are guaranteed by -5/+5 minutes and is checked manually, item in working condition and keeps time to the best of my knowledge and runs for at least 12+ hours, give or take -5/+5 minutes over 24 hours from a full wind, unless specified in the description. With any vintage watch not serviced, there could be a few minutes lost or gained over 24 hours. Item has been wound and left stationary running over night and face up, to make sure the watch is functional.
